Industrial hygiene and occupational health refer to the identification and control of exposures arising from chemical agents and solvents; heavy metals from dust and fumes containing lead, cadmium, arsenic, chromium, or mercury; physical agents from loud noise to mechanical vibration from equipment and machinery; biological hazards from infectious diseases and bloodborne pathogens; radiological hazards from man-made ionizing radiation such as x-rays or naturally occuring radiological materials from geological formations such as drilling for oil/gas; non-ionizing radiation from intense visible and ultraviolet light during metal arc welding and electromagnetic radiation from powerlines and high voltage equipment. Certified Industrial Hygienists (CIHs) by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) have demonstrated their knowledge of hazards and proficiency to resolve some of the most complex exposures in all types of industries across the globe.

 

We combine science, technology, and business to identify hazards and quantify risk. Our CIHs work with treatment and examining physicians to correlate findings of illness and disease with possible occupational exposure and provide information on exposure assessment, biological monitoring, and medical surveillance. In addition, our CIHs can provide control banding information to Human Resource (HR), hiring and contract support managers for updating job descriptions, performance requirements, and scheduling pre-placement, annual, and termination exams as well as training requirements to reduce liability and risk. Together we can construct cost saving solutions while reducing legal liability, catastrophic risk, operating cost, and meeting compliance requirements.
