Environmental Health and Safety

Environmental health and safety is an integral function of every company. Similar to occupational health and safety, the environmental aspects are concerned with air emissions and ambient air quality; energy conservation; wastewater and ambient water quality; water conservation; hazardous waste and waste management; community noise; contaminated land and remediation; emgency releases to the air, water, and land; use of raw materials and natural resources; energy emitted from heat/radiation/vibration; waste and by-products from consumption.

The staff at The Windsor Consulting Group, Inc. have experience in community noise; emergency response planing and execution to respond to releases in the air, waterways and land; use of hazardous materials; and air emission and ambient air quality. Our CIHs and CSPs can provide the environmental health and safety services to meet regulatory obligations and protect your company from environmental disaster.

Handling, Storage, and Use of Hazardous Materials and Waste

The characteristics of hazardous materials and wastes include: flammability, corrosivity, reactivity, and toxicity. The treatment, storage, and disposal of waste materials is regulated under RCRA. Other hazardous materials may be recycled, reused, or the amount reduce and repurposed for other use. Where possible substitution should be used whenever possible to reduce the risk of more toxic chemicals.

The Windsor Consulting Group, Inc. has the knowledge and experience to solve all types of environmental issues by testing and evaluating air emissions from industrial operations, auditing and evaluating emergency response capabiltiy, operability, and reliability for all types of environmental releases.

Emergency Response Plans and Training

The actions taken during the initial minutes of an emergency are critical. A written emergency management plan for readiness and preparedness provides the framework based on a site risk assessment using different scenarios. These events may be man-made such as a chemical release into the environment or a natural disaster from earthquake or storm. The performance objectives must consider life safety, business conitnuity, and stabilization of the incident. Training is essential for emergency responders and the protection of the workforce, public, and environment.

Many property owners, building managers, and insurance adjusters have relied on the talent of The Windsor Consulting Group, Inc. to contruct and evaluate emergency response plans for all catastrophic events and deliver site specific training to ensure the emergency response plan will be implemented right.

Community Noise from Industrial Operations

Noise generated operating machinery and equipment from industrial and commercial facilities can affect the lives of residents living in the community. Exposure must be measured and analyzed to determine if the noise levels are within acceptable levels. Noise control design and planning for industrial plants and commercial buildings successfully integrate into the community. The noise impact and exposrue to the envirnment can be quantified over 24-hours using dosimetry that measures the Community Noise Equivalent Level (CNEL).

Our staff of CIHs and CSPs at The Windsor Consulting Group, Inc. can conduct environmental and community noise impact evaluations for municipalities, towns, business/industry in order to ensure compliance with local ordinances..

Remediation of Contaminated Land

Our staff of CIHs and CSPs can provide health and safety contract support for environmental remediation projects. Past performance includes farm sites with hazardous material storage, demolition of plants, excavating soils containing heavy metals, chlorinated solvents, and radiological materials.  Constructing a comprehensive site specific health and safety plan with emergency response contingencies is the first step. Conducting a site risk assessment to evaluate the potential chemical, biological, radiological, ergonomic, and physical health hazards along with the safety aspects of using machinery and equipment, and properly training personnel to protect them from harm.

The Windsor Consulting Group, Inc. provides support in remediation projects on land and water. It is important all hazards are identified and risk quantified to prevent injury or illness, equipment damage, and property loss.
